OUR WORK

IGC's ACCESS and EDUCATION programs advance our mission by decreasing planet-warming emissions and increasing quality of life indicators for San Diegans who are disproportionately impacted by climate change.

WHAT IS DECARBONIZATION?

To decarbonize is to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions (particularly carbon dioxide) or to remove carbon from something.  Human activity (such as where our energy comes from, our food systems, transportation systems, consumption habits, etc.) emits greenhouse gases.  These gases warm our planet and disrupt its natural balances causing a whole host of problems like more intense and more frequent storms, draughts, forced migration, and more.  Reducing our emissions is key to slowing these devastating impacts.

WHAT ARE QUALITY OF LIFE INDICATORS?

Also called climate equity indicators or social determinants of health (SDOH), these are the conditions in which we are born, grow, work, live, and age and they shape our daily lives.  These factors directly relate to differences in access to opportunity, quality of life, health, and longevity.

ACCESS

IGC's Climate ConciergeSM program will go beyond providing information on how to access the financial and health benefits of clean energy. Climate ConciergesS will work with you to provide custom project management to remove dirty fossil fuels from your home so you can take full advantage of clean energy technology and a lower utility bill.  The Climate ConciergeSM program is in development and pending funding.  Learn more here.

EDUCATION

Our education programs are designed to provide anyone who's interested with a foundational understanding of the climate crisis, its disproportionate impact on marginalized communities, and actionable solutions to drive real change.

Our education programs include certificates in Carbon Literacy, Climate Fresk workshops, and custom climate leadership development.  Dedicated workshops, custom trainings, and generous donors allow us to provide the highest quality climate education to the community free of charge.
